Celebrating Connection and Change

Tuesday we said goodbye to our friend Jahzara on her last day in our classroom. Over her time with us, Jahzara brought such warmth, joy, and a gentle curiosity that we will deeply miss. We’ll remember her bright smile, her thoughtful presence, and the way she joined in with digging, climbing, playing peek-a-boo and connecting with friends. While we’re sad to see her go, we’re also excited for all the new adventures ahead of her. Jahzara,
thank you for being part of our journey.
You will always be a part of our classroom family.
On Tuesday, we enjoyed a day full of simple joys and meaningful moments. We relaxed into the rhythm of our space, digging and dumping with focus—sometimes even dumping ourselves into the fun! Laughter echoed as we climbed and explored, our curiosity leading us to new discoveries. We helped our friends with gentle hands and kind hearts, and felt proud of all we accomplished together. The sound of music filled the air, inviting us to move, dance, and connect. It was a day of play, connection, and growing together.
Today, we spent most of our day outside, soaking up the sunshine and fresh air. We explored huge sheets of paper with curiosity, crumpling, and discovering all the ways they moved and changed. Digging and dumping continued to be a favorite, along with climbing and wondering about the world around us. We waved and called out cheerful hellos to our friends on the toddler playground, already imagining the fun we’ll have joining them this summer. The rhythm of the day started with drumming,
hands tapping, smiles shining, and
hearts full.

A Day of Discovery and Adventure

Today was full of adventures! We began with some lively mark-making, using woody crayons to express our creativity. A few of us explored the hallways with curious eyes, noticing new details along the way. Outside, we filled, dumped, climbed, and jumped, embracing every opportunity to move and test our bodies. We read books together, shared lunch and snack, and showed kindness by helping our friends. Throughout the day, we tested ideas and formed hypotheses, using our experiences to guide our discoveries. It was a joyful, busy day of learning and connection!

Two marvelous days based outside. Our yard is greening up, the dirt is getting dug, and the mountain is being summited. We are spending more and more time in  our yard. Playing in the dirt and bouncing on balls have been two favorites

A second visit to Primos Park with a Wednesday group was a JOYYYYYY! So many different parts- the mellow duos in the strollers, the dandelion hunters, the trailblazers, the deer trackers, the sand explorer and pourers.

Playful Day with Chester

Today we sorted, stacked, and played,
In mud where tiny footprints stayed.
A puddle called — we kicked off shoes,
Felt water’s chill, a wiggly muse.

We toppled towers, climbed up high,
Read books with stars and dancing sky.
We rocked and sang a soft refrain,
With drums and bells, a sweet domain.

And joy grew brighter, full and true,
When Chester* came to join us too.

                                                                                                                                                      *Chester is Susannah's son.

Jack, car in hand, drives/ leads the way to dirt.
James explores the dirt UP CLOSE!
Some of this dirt was packed , some crumbly.
Mia collected dandelions, placed them in a cup, poured out and then repeated with dirt.

Sometimes sitting nearby and catching a glance of what a friend was doing,
sometimes working directly  with a friend...

Rowan split his time evenly between the wheels and dirt.
Looking forward to more!

Primos Park Adventure

A Day at Primos Park
Today, we set off on a big adventure to Primos Park, strollers rolling and hands held tight. The morning air was full of excitement as we bumped along the grass--bump bump bump!—laughing as the strollers bounced along the uneven ground.

We found treasures: sticks to wave like magic wands and flowers to admire and carry gently in our palms. The big hill at the park called to us, and we couldn’t resist running up and down—over and over again, full of energy and joy.

Suddenly, we heard the rumble of a garbage truck—huge and loud! We paused to watch, wide-eyed, as it clattered and clanged. Not long after, the wail of a firetruck echoed nearby, its siren a thrilling sound in the distance.

We made our way down to the creek, where the soft, cool sand was perfect for scooping, pouring, and imagining. Afterward, we followed the winding adventure trail, stepping carefully and curiously, like little explorers on a secret path.

Just as we were heading back, a dump truck rolled by, one last surprise to top off the day. We waved as it passed and kept strolling, our shoes a little dusty, our pockets maybe full of sticks.

It was a good day—the kind that leaves you smiling on the way home, already dreaming of the next adventure.
If you do not see your child above, we are hoping that this is the first of a few trips to Primos in the next few weeks, and we will make sure we get everyone there eventually!

A Day of Friendship and Discovery

Marking Together:

Listen to the Tip-Tap of Our Crayons
After the Rain
We stepped outside, coats zipped tight,
To find the playground kissed by night--
Rain left buds like gems below,
Fence weeping silver, soft and slow.

The deck was damp, the wood felt new,
Mud hugged our shoes like morning dew.
Familiar paths in mystery dressed--
Our old friend changed, but still our nest.
Here are more moments of connection and discovery from our day:

Clay Encounters

4/11/2025

In our classroom today, a simple material—clay—became a powerful tool for exploration, communication, and connection. With trays of soft, earthy clay and a few tools, the children dove into a rich sensory experience that spoke volumes without words.
Some children poked, dropped, threw, and squeezed small pieces of clay, their faces full of curiosity and focus. Others used colorful cubes and cylinders to stamp patterns, creating early forms of symbolic expression. There was no single way to explore—each child brought their own rhythm, questions, and creativity to the table.
What emerged was more than just marks and shapes. We witnessed the beginnings of storytelling, experimentation, and collaborative awareness. One child, curious about its texture and another watched a friend before making their own impression, showing how learning can be deeply social even in the earliest years.
Clay offered resistance and possibility—it invited questions like What happens if I press this? Can I change its shape? Through their play, the children engaged in cognitive inquiry, fine motor development, and sensory processing—all while expressing their ideas in their own unique way.
As educators, we see these moments as foundations for future learning. Moving forward, we'll continue offering new provocations and materials to deepen this emerging language of clay, honoring each child’s voice, choice, and process of discovery.

Budding Buds

PictureTuesday: Bobby puts his hands on Mia's bottle while she's drinking. She gives a distress cry. He holds the bottle, she looks at him, he tips the bottle up, she drinks. He pulls the bottle out, she vocalizes, he offers it back, he tips it up, she drinks.

The children of Room 3 are really  getting to know the joy, and sometime challenges, of relationships. But the draw is clear and no day passes without exchanges smiles and sqeals. They meet each other in so many different ways: with the blocks that they both like, with markers-dot-dot-dot-ing, with the cups- practicing things in and out, at the fish tank-trying to figure out the light. Sometimes their awareness of each other is acute, sometimes fuzzy, sometimes, they may not even distinguish that a separation.  We try to take note of shared interest and then scaffold play and give them tools to engage or opt out. We narrate what we are seeing and interpreting , then we back off and be quiet, and let them to it.
Two areas that we have focused on are ball play and Row, Row, Row Your Boat.  The two approaches are starting to take. Children who once held on tight to a beloved ball, now are excited to sit down and throw it to a friend, pretty sure it will come back, and that will be fun! As the last blog showed a couple of Row, Row Pairs, most of the children now understand the name, sequence and how to proceed. And they showing us where are our assumptions may lie, 2 in a boat, face 2 face... but why?

And lots of time to play on our own and with friends...

Wednesday: We had just played outside in the sunny morning for an hour. Mia and Walker came in for a milk break. We offered them their bottles in the cozy spot. Walker reached for Mia, she looked at him and offered him her hand. They repeated this for the duration of their bottles.
